Great investment teams deserve a business built with the same discipline as the portfolio.

Anchor is a manager-side firm. We diagnose, build and run the business functions of asset managers: distribution, product, organization and operations. And we put capital alongside the advice.

The thesis

Scale buys distribution and costs alpha.

The two halves of the industry are each missing what the other has. Anchor exists in the gap between them.

Emerging managersAlpha without a business
  • Ability to add value, without the resources to build the business patiently
  • Institutional readiness arrives years after the track record does
  • Distribution effort spread across the wrong pools of capital
  • Fixed operating cost carried too early in the life cycle
Established managersA business without durable alpha
  • Infrastructure to win mandates, without a reliable source of long-term alpha
  • Capacity constraints bind long before the sales plan admits it
  • Fee compression continues while willingness to pay for beta falls
  • More meetings, not more mandates: activity substituting for strategy

Illustrative. Alpha tends to fall as a manager scales; distribution capability rises with it. Anchor works where the two cross.

When managers call us

It becomes the constraint at a specific moment.

Managers do not wake up wanting a diagnostic. They call when something breaks, or is about to. These are the moments we are built for.

  • 01A founder wants to step back and there is no internal successor
  • 02A key person leaves, or a team is at risk of leaving
  • 03A large redemption, or the loss of a platform or consultant rating
  • 04Operational due diligence stalls or fails
  • 05The flagship strategy is at capacity with no second product
  • 06A fund needs to be closed, merged or repriced
  • 07A GP-stake or strategic approach arrives unexpectedly
  • 08Fixed costs outran a fundraise that came in short
  • 09A spin-out or lift-out opportunity with a deadline
  • 10An institutional mandate the operating model cannot yet support

If the business is the constraint, that is a conversation worth having early, ideally before the moment arrives.

Ways to work together

Defined engagements, sized to the firm’s stage.

Every engagement starts with the Business Diagnostic. It stands alone, or it becomes the first step of a longer partnership.

See all engagements
01Fixed fee · 4 to 6 weeks

Business Diagnostic

A four-to-six-week read of the firm as an allocator’s due-diligence team or a buyer would see it: distribution, product, operating model, economics, governance, ownership and key-person exposure. A scored assessment and a prioritized list of what to fix.

02Fixed fee · 6 to 10 weeks

Growth Plan

A three-year plan: which pools of capital, which products, what the team and cost base look like at the next AUM step, and the milestones an allocator or investor would underwrite.

03Fixed fee, plus a stake where it fits

Restructuring

Ownership and incentive redesign, founder transition, cost-base reset, product rationalization, spin-outs and lift-outs, recapitalizations.

04Monthly retainer

Build & Scale

Anchor runs the business functions (distribution, product, operations) under a shared-services agreement while the manager retains the investment mandate.

05Fixed fee · co-investment where it fits

Succession & Ownership Transition

Preparing a founder-owned firm for an internal transition, a minority partner or a sale: the process, governance and equity story a buyer or GP-stake investor needs to see.

06Advisory fee

Platform Combinations

For established firms adding a team or strategy, and for teams joining a platform: target definition, diligence, and a structure that keeps the team and its alpha intact.

What Anchor does

Anchor takes the business off the investment team’s desk.

Shared services and outsourced solutions across four operational drivers, sized to the manager’s current AUM and prepared for the next level of it.

01

Business development

Distribution strategy focused on the pools of capital appropriate to the firm’s stage (consultants, RIAs, family offices, institutional allocators), with the sales, marketing and client-service infrastructure behind it.

02

Product and investment management support

Product development and wrapper design (separate accounts, commingled vehicles, master/feeder structures, ETF and interval-fund routes) matched to the mandates the strategy can realistically win and the capacity it can absorb.

03

Organizational design

Corporate strategy, ownership and incentive structure, hiring sequence and governance: a scalable, well-controlled environment built before the growth arrives rather than during it.

04

Operations and finance

Middle and back office, vendor and service-provider selection, policies and procedures, and the operational due-diligence readiness allocators test before they fund.

Who Anchor is right for

Sized to the manager’s stage, prepared for the next one.

EmergingUnder $500M

A strategy with a record and a business that has not caught up. Diagnostic and growth plan first; Build & Scale often part-equity so the firm keeps cash for the investment team.

Growth$500M to $5B

Real budgets and urgent problems: institutional readiness, a second product, the sales organization at the next step. The full range of engagements, with Anchor as a potential partner.

EstablishedOver $5B

Infrastructure in place, alpha or succession the question. Restructuring, ownership transition and platform combinations, adding teams and strategies with the alignment to keep them.

Alignment

We are paid to build the business, and we will invest in it.

Involvement 01

Strategic partnership

Anchor operates the business functions under a shared-services agreement; the manager retains the investment mandate. Fees are flat or retained, never contingent on capital raised.

Involvement 02

Acceleration capital

Capital to sustain the firm through the build, funding distribution and infrastructure ahead of the revenue that supports them. Where it fits, Anchor takes part of its fee as equity or revenue share.

Involvement 03

Transaction structuring

Lift-outs, management buy-outs and recapitalizations, structured with the alignment the next decade requires.

Two commitments.

Anchor is not a placement agent and does not solicit investors; capital-raising mandates are referred to licensed partners. Where Anchor holds an interest in a manager, every other client is told so in writing before the engagement begins.

Why Anchor

Operators, not researchers. Partners, not vendors.

Strategy consultants

Diagnose and recommend. Anchor diagnoses, then builds and runs the functions, and stays as AUM steps up.

Placement agents

Raise capital for a fee on the raise. Anchor builds the distribution engine the firm owns; it does not solicit, so the incentive is the business, not the close.

Multi-boutique platforms

Buy a stake and leave the business to the manager. Anchor does the operating work, and takes a stake only where it fits the manager.

Fractional executives

One function, one person. Anchor covers distribution, product, organization and operations as one team, with a bench behind it.

The common thread: Anchor’s partners have run these functions inside large managers, and are prepared to put capital alongside the advice.

The firm

Operators from the businesses our partners are building.

Anchor’s founding partners are former sales and business executives from large asset-management firms. Their prior work spans sales, corporate strategy, deal sourcing and transaction structuring across distribution, product development, operations and finance.

We recognize the nuances and unique market factors of an asset manager’s business, which is what allows a partnership to make informed decisions quickly, and to build the infrastructure before the growth arrives, rather than during it.

No. 01 · September 2026 Buffett’s Sharpe ratio is 0.76

The best long-run record available to a public investor was substantially a business achievement, not a portfolio one. What that says about the returns a manager should promise, and the business it takes to keep them.

If the business is the constraint, that is a conversation worth having early.

Anchor takes on a small number of managers each year. A first conversation is a discussion of the business, not a pitch. Tell us the stage and the constraint, and we will come back within two business days.

Not an offer or solicitation. Capital-raising enquiries are referred to licensed partners.
